Please contact me if you are interested in research practicum opportunities in Fall 2020 or Winter 2021.

Enrolling in one of the 3rd or 4th year research practica courses will provide you with the opportunity to work closely with myself and the other members of the research team. Through participation in lab activities and meetings, you will gain a good understanding of how research is conducted, learn about current research about attachment relationships and health, and have the opportunity to discuss the possibility of completing an honours thesis, post-graduate work in psychology and related fields.  If you are interested in pursing a graduate career in psychology or a related field, you may be interested in the honours thesis program.  Generally, I require that students have participated in the lab for at least one semester before providing the opportunity to do independent research such as an honour’s thesis. Many of my honours thesis students have completed one or two research practica with me before enrolling in the 4th year thesis.  Generally, I require that students have participated in the lab for at least two semesters before writing a recommendation letter. The longer you participate in the lab, the better I will get to know you and your strengths and weaknesses.  A recommendation letter is much stronger to the extent that I can comment on specific qualities and experiences.

Research Practica Requirements: Please see the academic calendar for specific prerequisites. All research practica students will have the opportunity to work on one of the projects being conducted in the lab and are expected to contribute 6 hours/week (3rd year) or 8 hours/week (4th year) in the research lab.  Course requirements may also include activities such as attendance at a 1-hour weekly lab meeting,  writing article summaries and literature reviews, managing data and online surveys, conducting questionnaire follow-up, and assisting with data collection in the lab or in the community.

How to Apply: Please send a copy of your CV/resume, statement of why you are interested in the research practica course, and unofficial transcript (MyTrent printout is okay) to Dr. Elaine Scharfe as an email attachment.
